Tribune Advances Hornet Open Pit with High-Grade Drilling Success
Tribune Resources Ltd reports strong December quarter drilling results at the Hornet deposit within the East Kundana Joint Venture, setting the stage for open pit mining in FY25.
- 4,158 metres of RC drilling completed at Hornet deposit
- High-grade mineralised zone identified within Mary Fault mineralisation
- Drilling supports upcoming open pit mining scheduled for FY25 Q4
- Resource updates planned for Hornet, Raleigh, and RHP underground
- Ambition prospect discovery drilling scheduled for late FY25
Robust Drilling Campaign at Hornet
Tribune Resources Ltd (ASX: TBR) has delivered a comprehensive exploration update for the December 2024 quarter, focusing on the East Kundana Joint Venture (EKJV) where it holds a 36.75% interest alongside Evolution Mining Limited (51%) and Rand Mining Limited (12.25%). The highlight of the quarter was the completion of 4,158 metres of Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling at the Hornet deposit, a key step in preparing for the planned open pit mining operation set to commence in the fourth quarter of FY25.
The drilling targeted the Mary Fault mineralisation zone, employing a dense 5m by 5m drill spacing to accurately delineate the continuity of high-grade gold mineralisation. Results from this infill drilling campaign have been positive, confirming a robust mineralised zone that will underpin an updated Mineral Resource estimate and inform the forthcoming mining sequence.
Strategic Importance of the Hornet Deposit
Located approximately 25km west-northwest of Kalgoorlie and 47km northeast of Coolgardie, the Hornet deposit sits within a prolific gold region of Western Australia. The EKJV’s strategic positioning within the Norseman-Wiluna Greenstone Belt and along the Zuleika Shear Zone continues to yield promising exploration results, reinforcing the joint venture’s potential to contribute significantly to regional gold production.
The Hornet mineralisation is characterised by laminated vein-hosted gold on the K2 plane of the Zuleika shear, with additional mineralisation on associated structures. The recent drilling campaign has not only confirmed the grade and continuity of mineralisation but also provided critical data for mine planning and resource development.
Future Exploration and Development Plans
Looking ahead, the EKJV partners plan to update Mineral Resources incorporating the latest drilling results from Hornet, as well as from the Raleigh and RHP underground prospects. Resource development drilling at Raleigh is scheduled for the third quarter of FY25, aiming to delineate extensions of the Sadler ore zone within the Raleigh Main Vein structure.
Additionally, discovery drilling at the Ambition prospect is slated for the fourth quarter of FY25, targeting the Centenary Main Vein, a principal structure hosting Kundana mineralisation. These efforts underscore the joint venture’s commitment to expanding its resource base and extending mine life across multiple deposits.
Technical Rigor and Reporting Standards
The exploration program adhered to rigorous sampling and assay protocols, with all RC drilling samples processed through fire assay techniques at accredited laboratories. Quality control measures included the use of certified reference materials, blanks, and duplicate samples to ensure data integrity. Drill hole positioning and downhole surveys were conducted with high precision, supporting reliable resource estimation.
Tribune Resources’ Managing Director, Mr Anton Billis, approved the release of this report, reflecting confidence in the technical results and their implications for the EKJV’s operational plans.
Bottom Line?
With high-grade drilling confirming Hornet’s potential, Tribune Resources is poised to advance open pit mining and expand its resource footprint in FY25.
Questions in the middle?
- How will the upcoming Mineral Resource updates impact the EKJV’s reserve classification and mine planning?
- What are the expected capital and operational costs associated with the Hornet open pit development?
- Could the Ambition prospect drilling uncover new significant mineralisation to extend EKJV’s mine life?
