KalGold Plans 2,500m RC Drilling to Probe High-Grade Lighthorse Gold System

Kalgoorlie Gold Mining is set to begin follow-up RC drilling at its promising Lighthorse gold discovery in early March 2025, aiming to unlock deeper mineralisation and expand the resource footprint.

  • Follow-up RC drilling at Lighthorse scheduled to start around 4 March 2025
  • Initial drilling revealed thick, high-grade gold intervals with mineralisation open at depth
  • Approximately 2,500 metres of drilling planned targeting fresh rock beneath supergene blanket
  • Neighbouring E79 Gold Mines fast-tracking drill testing of potential westward extensions
  • Strong shareholder option exercises have bolstered KalGold’s balance sheet for exploration

Lighthorse Drilling Set to Accelerate

Kalgoorlie Gold Mining (ASX: KAL) has announced it will fast-track follow-up reverse circulation (RC) drilling at its Lighthorse gold discovery within the Pinjin Project, with drilling expected to commence around 4 March 2025. This move follows encouraging initial results from the first-ever drilling at Lighthorse, which returned thick, high-grade gold intervals including 17 metres at 4.81 g/t Au starting from 48 metres depth, and notably 8 metres at 9.21 g/t Au within that interval.

The initial drilling ended in mineralisation, suggesting the presence of a deeper primary gold system beneath the extensive supergene gold blanket identified. The upcoming RC program aims to test this deeper mineralisation and better define the extent of the gold system.

Program Details and Exploration Strategy

The follow-up drilling program is designed to deliver systematic coverage of the subsurface target area with approximately 2,500 metres planned, likely spread across around 15 holes. Drilling will focus on fresh rock beneath the supergene blanket, with tighter drill spacing of 80 metres along the discovery line and step-outs 100 metres north and south. Select holes will be drilled to depths of up to 200 metres to probe the potential for deeper mineralisation.

Given Lighthorse’s lack of outcrop and absence of historic drilling prior to KalGold’s recent work, the subsurface geology remains largely untested. This program represents a critical step in understanding the structural controls and mineralisation style of this greenfields discovery.

Regional Interest and Collaborative Potential

The discovery has sparked renewed interest in the southern Laverton Tectonic Zone, a prolific gold province. Neighbouring E79 Gold Mines (ASX: E79) has announced it will fast-track drilling immediately west of KalGold’s Lighthorse discovery, testing for extensions of the mineralised system across tenement boundaries. KalGold has expressed its support for this initiative and will cooperate on logistics and access where possible, potentially expanding the known gold footprint in the region.

Financial Strengthening Through Option Exercises

KalGold’s balance sheet has been bolstered by proactive option exercises from shareholders, with approximately $640,000 received to date. This influx of capital provides the company with enhanced financial flexibility to accelerate exploration activities at Pinjin and other projects.

Broader Project Context

The Pinjin Gold Project is strategically located about 140 kilometres northeast of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, adjacent to Ramelius Resources’ Rebecca Gold Project, which is targeting production by 2027. KalGold’s portfolio includes several JORC-compliant inferred mineral resources, including the Kirgella Gift and Providence deposits, and the La Mascotte deposit near its Bulong Taurus Project.

KalGold’s approach focuses on defining shallow, potentially open-pittable gold resources at low costs, currently under A$4.60 per ounce. The Lighthorse discovery adds a compelling new dimension to the company’s exploration pipeline, with the upcoming drilling campaign poised to clarify its potential scale and grade.

Bottom Line?

As KalGold accelerates drilling at Lighthorse, the market will be watching closely for results that could redefine the company’s resource base and regional gold potential.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the follow-up drilling confirm a significant primary gold system beneath the supergene blanket?
  • How extensive is the strike potential of the Lighthorse discovery beyond current drill lines?
  • What impact will E79 Gold Mines’ adjacent drilling results have on KalGold’s exploration strategy?
