Estrella Resources Launches Timor-Leste’s Historic First Metallic Minerals Drill Program

A Historic Milestone for Timor-Leste

Estrella Resources Limited (ASX: ESR) has officially commenced the first modern metallic minerals drilling program in Timor-Leste, a country previously untouched by such exploration efforts. The campaign, focused on manganese mineralisation, is centred on the Ira Miri Prospect within the Lautem Project area. This initiative not only represents a significant step for Estrella but also marks a landmark moment in the nation’s mining history.

Drilling Program and Technical Approach

The program began with man-portable diamond drilling, deployed by CoreSearch, designed to rapidly gather subsurface geological data. This initial phase targets approximately 3,000 meters of diamond drilling, followed by a more extensive 10,000 meters of reverse circulation (RC) drilling. The combined 13,000 meters of drilling aims to delineate the extent and quality of manganese mineralisation, with further rounds of drilling planned based on early results.

Community and Regulatory Collaboration

Estrella has emphasised its strong partnership with local communities, who have been actively involved through cultural ceremonies, track construction, and ongoing consultation. This collaboration underscores the company’s commitment to responsible exploration practices. Regulatory oversight is provided by Timor-Leste’s Autoridade Nacional de Mineração (ANM), which has granted necessary approvals and is closely monitoring the program alongside joint venture partner Rai Murak Timor.

Strategic Importance and Future Outlook

The drilling campaign targets multiple prospects beyond Ira Miri, including Sica and Lalena, all showing promising manganese mineralisation associated with limestone formations. The data collected will guide Estrella’s broader exploration strategy in this underexplored region, potentially unlocking significant mineral resources. The company plans to present initial findings at the upcoming International Manganese Institute conference in Tokyo, signalling its intent to engage with the global manganese market.
