Marble Bar Drilling Yields 5.07g/t Au Peak in Intrusive-Related Gold System
Global Lithium Resources has unveiled promising diamond drilling results at its Marble Bar Project, intersecting altered granodiorite with anomalous gold assays including a standout 5.07g/t Au over 1m. These findings bolster the case for a significant intrusive-related gold system in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
- Completed 1,598.7m diamond drilling with government co-funding
- Strong sericite-pyrite alteration extended 1.5km down plunge
- Peak gold assay of 5.07g/t Au over 1m within altered granodiorite
- Elevated silver, lead, zinc detected alongside gold anomalies
- Company weighing options to unlock Marble Bar gold value amid lithium focus
Exploration Advances at Marble Bar
Global Lithium Resources Limited (ASX, GL1) has released encouraging results from its recent diamond drilling campaign at the Marble Bar Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The program, co-funded by the State Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme, comprised two diamond holes totaling nearly 1,600 metres. The drilling targeted the down-plunge extension of a previously identified altered granite body known as the Murphy Well Granodiorite, situated near known gold prospects Twin Veins and Douglas Find.
The drill holes intersected strongly altered and fractured granodiorite exhibiting a pervasive sericite-pyrite hydrothermal alteration signature. This alteration zone has now been traced over a substantial 1.5-kilometre plunge from surface, highlighting the considerable scale and depth continuity of the underlying hydrothermal system.
Gold and Base Metal Anomalies Signal Potential
Assay results revealed anomalous gold values exceeding 0.1 grams per tonne in both holes, with a peak intercept of 1 metre grading 5.07g/t Au at 191 metres depth within hole MWDD004. While most gold values remain low-grade, the presence of elevated silver, lead, and zinc within the alteration zone adds weight to the interpretation of an intrusive-related gold system. This style of mineralisation is typically associated with large, deep-seated hydrothermal systems that can host significant gold deposits.
Global Lithium’s General Manager – Geology, Logan Barber, described the confirmation of the south-easterly plunge of the hydrothermal system and increasing gold anomalism as “intriguing,” noting the system remains poorly constrained and ripe for further exploration. The company acknowledges that the limited drilling to date leaves substantial upside potential, both within the granite and in surrounding prospects such as Twin Veins, which has previously returned shallow high-grade gold intercepts.
Balancing Lithium and Gold Opportunities
Despite the promising gold results, Global Lithium’s primary focus remains on advancing its flagship Manna Lithium Project in the Goldfields region, where it is progressing a definitive feasibility study and final project approvals. Nevertheless, the company recognizes the unrealized value of the Marble Bar gold opportunity, especially given the current strong gold price environment. It is actively considering strategic options to unlock this value, potentially through partnerships or further exploration funding.
The drilling program was executed safely and within budget, with 50% of direct drilling costs subsidized by the State Government’s grant. The company adhered to rigorous industry-standard sampling and assay protocols, ensuring the reliability of the results. While the exploration is still at an early stage and true widths of mineralisation remain uncertain, these findings mark a significant step forward in understanding the geology and mineral potential of the Marble Bar area.
Looking Ahead
Global Lithium plans to continue evaluating the Marble Bar gold system’s potential through further geological studies, geophysical surveys, and targeted drilling. The company’s ability to leverage its lithium expertise alongside emerging gold prospects could position it uniquely in Western Australia’s resource landscape.
Bottom Line?
Global Lithium’s Marble Bar drilling opens a new frontier in gold exploration, with further work poised to define its true potential.
