New Structural Targets at Bousquet Could Redefine Gold Potential
Olympio Metals has reported its most significant gold assay results to date at the Decoeur Prospect, extending mineralisation both at depth and along strike, and revealing new north-trending structural targets at its Bousquet Project in Quebec.
- Best-ever gold intercept at Decoeur – 14.5m @ 1.96 g/t Au
- Discovery of previously unrecognised north-trending mineralised structures
- Near-surface gold confirmed along North Bousquet Fault
- All 12 drill holes at Bousquet intersect high-grade gold mineralisation
- Ongoing drilling with further assay results expected in coming months
A Breakthrough at Decoeur
Olympio Metals Limited (ASX – OLY) has announced a landmark achievement in its exploration campaign at the Bousquet Project in Quebec, Canada. The company’s latest drilling results at the Decoeur Prospect have yielded the best gold intercept recorded at this site since its discovery 80 years ago. Hole BO-25-40 returned a significant 14.5 metres grading 1.96 grams per tonne of gold from a depth of 355.5 metres, extending mineralisation both deeper and along strike.
This breakthrough came from targeting previously unrecognised north-trending structural zones; an approach that contrasts with historical drilling focused primarily on east-west structures. The success of this strategy not only validates Olympio’s geological reinterpretation but also opens a new frontier for exploration within the project.
Expanding the Gold Footprint
Complementing this deep intercept, hole BO-25-39 confirmed near-surface gold mineralisation associated with the North Bousquet Fault, intersecting 3.75 metres at 2.24 grams per tonne from just 13.25 metres downhole. This shallow mineralisation remains open to the east, suggesting further potential along this fundamental regional structure.
To date, all 12 drill holes completed and assayed across three prospects at Bousquet; Decoeur, Paquin, and Amadee; have successfully intersected high-grade gold mineralisation. This consistent success underscores the robustness of the project’s geological setting and the effectiveness of Olympio’s targeted drilling program.
Strategic Location and Geological Context
The Bousquet Project is strategically situated on the Cadillac Break, a major regional fault system renowned for hosting world-class gold deposits exceeding 110 million ounces. It lies within 15 kilometres of significant operating mines, including Agnico Eagle’s La Ronde mine (15.8 million ounces) and Iamgold’s Westwood mine (2.4 million ounces), positioning Olympio’s project in a highly prospective gold district.
Geologically, the mineralisation at Decoeur is associated with talc-chlorite altered talc-schist units in the hanging wall of the North Bousquet Fault, resembling gold-bearing lithologies found nearby. The discovery of north-trending mineralised structures, poorly defined by previous drilling, is a pivotal development that will shape future exploration efforts.
Ongoing Exploration and Next Steps
Drilling continues at Bousquet, with assay results from recent holes BO-25-50 and BO-25-51 expected shortly. These holes targeted talc-chlorite schists east of BO-25-39 and intersected sulphide-bearing altered rocks, further supporting the prospectivity of the area. Olympio plans to focus upcoming drilling on shallow gold mineralisation and the newly identified north-trending structures, employing azimuths around 220 degrees to optimize targeting.
The company’s Managing Director, Sean Delaney, expressed confidence that this new geological understanding will enable an upgrade in the scale of the Decoeur Prospect. With all drill holes so far intersecting high-grade gold and ongoing work to integrate historical data and geophysical surveys, Olympio is well positioned to unlock further value from the Bousquet Project.
Bottom Line?
Olympio’s fresh structural insights and strong assay results at Decoeur set the stage for a potentially transformative phase in its Quebec gold exploration.
Questions in the middle?
- How will upcoming assay results from holes BO-25-50 and BO-25-51 influence the resource potential at Decoeur?
- What is the true width of the newly discovered north-trending mineralised zones, and how might this affect resource estimation?
- Can Olympio successfully delineate shallow gold mineralisation along the North Bousquet Fault to accelerate project development?
