Commercial Milestone for Low-Carbon Concrete

Zeotech Limited (ASX – ZEO) has marked a significant step forward in sustainable construction materials with the successful completion of its largest commercial-scale concrete demonstration pour using AusPozz™, its proprietary low embodied carbon high-reactivity metakaolin. The 100 cubic metre pour, equivalent to 17 truckloads, was conducted over two days at Holcim Australia’s Caboolture batching plant, showcasing AusPozz™ as a viable supplementary cementitious material (SCM) that can reduce both the total binder content and the carbon footprint of concrete.

The demonstration validated AusPozz™’s performance in real-world conditions, confirming its seamless integration into existing concrete supply chains. It proved compatible with batching plants, transportation, pumping systems, and placement techniques, addressing a critical hurdle for commercial adoption of new materials in the construction sector.

Strong Industry Engagement and Technical Validation

The event drew over 35 influential stakeholders from across the construction and materials industries, including representatives from Holcim Australia, Cement Australia, Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, Boral, Amazon Web Services, and leading engineering consultancies. Attendees observed the concrete’s workability, setting time, and finishing quality, with contractors praising the mix for its ease of placement and consistent behaviour.

Importantly, the mix design aligned with Queensland’s TMR 40MPa pavement specification, incorporating 20% AusPozz™ replacement of cementitious content. Early strength results were impressive, with unconfined compressive strength exceeding 50MPa after 7 days and expected to surpass 70MPa at 28 days; well above the required standard. This strength enhancement enables a reduction in cement content, offering both environmental and cost benefits.

Emerging Commercial Opportunities and Next Steps

Following the successful demonstration, Zeotech is exploring several promising commercial avenues. These include a larger 200m³ concrete trial, a windfarm mix design trial with 50% cement replacement, and discussions around a potential Memorandum of Understanding with a global engineering and construction firm. Workshops with asset owners and engineering consultancies are also planned to develop a commercial roadmap for AusPozz™ adoption in large-scale projects.

The demonstration slab was poured at RAW Skips recycling yard in Queensland, a high-traffic site with over 250 truck movements daily, providing a rigorous environment to monitor long-term durability and performance. Independent testing of concrete samples is underway, with results expected to further validate AusPozz™’s technical credentials.

Zeotech’s CEO James Marsh highlighted the dual benefits of AusPozz™ in reducing embodied carbon and lowering concrete costs, positioning the product as a compelling solution for industry decarbonisation targets. The positive feedback from industry participants reinforces confidence in AusPozz™’s potential to disrupt traditional concrete formulations.
