Telfer Mine Expansion Hinges on New High-Grade Discovery and Regional Exploration
Greatland Resources has kicked off FY26 with a drilling program at Telfer that has already surpassed targets, revealing a promising new high-grade zone underground and advancing multiple resource extensions.
- 53,543 metres drilled in September quarter, exceeding planned targets
- New high-grade mineralisation zone discovered in West Dome Underground Eastern Limb
- Record 240,000 metres drilling program on track for FY26
- Resource growth and conversion drilling across West Dome Open Pit, West Dome Underground, and Main Dome Underground
- Encouraging regional exploration results near Telfer mill including Peaches and Calloway deposits
Strong Start to FY26 Drilling at Telfer
Greatland Resources Limited has reported a robust start to its FY26 drilling and exploration program at the Telfer gold-copper mine in Western Australia. During the September quarter, the company completed 53,543 metres of drilling across 711 holes, surpassing its planned targets. This drilling activity focused on both resource growth and resource conversion across key areas including the West Dome Open Pit, West Dome Underground, and Main Dome Underground.
Discovery of New High-Grade Zone
A highlight of the quarter was the identification of a new high-grade mineralisation zone within the Eastern Limb of the West Dome Underground. Initial assay results from this zone returned impressive intercepts such as 30 metres at 5.6 grams per tonne gold and 0.25% copper, indicating significant potential for an underground mining centre beneath the existing West Dome Open Pit. The proximity to existing underground infrastructure enhances the project's operational appeal.
Advancing Multiple Resource Extensions
Drilling at the West Dome Open Pit targeted extensions to Stage 2 and Stage 7, with resource growth drilling exceeding plans and expected to complete Stage 7 extension ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, the Main Dome Underground drilling campaign successfully extended mineralisation at the Eastern Stockwork Corridor South and Kylo prospects, with several new mining areas slated for operational delivery by the end of Q2 FY26. These efforts collectively support Greatland’s objective of multi-year mine life extension at Telfer.
Encouraging Regional Exploration
Beyond the core Telfer operations, Greatland’s regional exploration in the Paterson region has yielded promising results. Satellite deposits such as Peaches and Calloway, located within trucking distance of the Telfer mill, have confirmed mineralisation extensions. Geophysical surveys at Deserts Revenge and drilling at Thomsons and other prospects have identified new targets and high-grade veins, broadening the potential ore feed options for Telfer.
On Track for Record Drilling and Resource Update
Greatland is mobilising additional drilling rigs to sustain the momentum, with a total of eight rigs planned for FY26 to complete a record 240,000 metres of drilling. The company aims to deliver a significant resource update in the March 2026 quarter, which will incorporate the latest drilling results and provide greater clarity on the scale and quality of mineralisation. Managing Director Shaun Day emphasised the potential for a multi-year mine life extension and the strategic importance of the new high-grade zones.
Bottom Line?
Greatland’s aggressive drilling campaign at Telfer is reshaping the mine’s future, with new high-grade discoveries and resource extensions setting the stage for a major resource update in early 2026.
Questions in the middle?
- How extensive is the newly discovered high-grade zone in West Dome Underground, and what is its economic potential?
- What impact will the denser drilling spacing have on resource confidence and mine planning at Telfer?
- How will regional satellite deposits influence the long-term ore feed strategy for the Telfer mill?
