Pivotal Metals Uncovers New Copper-Gold Target at Belleterre Ahead of 2026 Drilling

Pivotal Metals has identified a promising new copper-gold exploration target, Kelly Lake East, within its Belleterre project in Quebec, setting the stage for a major drilling campaign in early 2026.

  • Discovery of widespread copper-gold anomalism at Kelly Lake East
  • Limited historical drilling with suboptimal orientation
  • Extensive geophysical and soil sampling planned to refine targets
  • Drilling across four priority targets scheduled to start January 2026
  • Belleterre project benefits from strong infrastructure and proximity to milling

A New Frontier at Belleterre

Pivotal Metals Limited (ASX – PVT) has announced a significant new copper-gold exploration target named Kelly Lake East, located within its 100% owned Belleterre project in Quebec, Canada. This discovery adds a fresh layer of excitement to the company’s ongoing exploration efforts in the prolific Abitibi greenstone belt, a region renowned for its rich mineral endowment.

The Kelly Lake East area, situated just 6.6 kilometres southeast of the historic Lorraine Mine, has revealed widespread and highly anomalous copper and gold mineralisation over a 1km by 1.5km zone. Surface sampling has returned impressive grades, including copper concentrations up to 2.0% and gold up to 1.9 grams per tonne, with mineralisation closely associated with quartz veining and sulphide-rich shears.

Unlocking Untapped Potential

Despite the compelling surface evidence, historical drilling in the Kelly Lake East area has been limited and poorly oriented, with only 11 holes drilled between 1952 and 1987. These holes were largely sub-parallel to the mineralised trends, leaving much of the system underexplored. Pivotal’s recent fieldwork, including geophysical surveys and soil sampling, has identified multiple untested VTEM conductors and extensive copper soil anomalies, underscoring the scale and prospectivity of this target.

Importantly, the mineralised system at Kelly Lake East extends beyond Pivotal’s claim boundary into neighbouring ground held by Vior Inc, which is currently undertaking a substantial 100,000-metre drilling program. This regional activity highlights the broader district’s potential and reinforces Pivotal’s confidence in the Belleterre land package.

Strategic Exploration Program Ahead

Pivotal is gearing up for an extensive exploration campaign at Belleterre, with drilling scheduled to commence in January 2026 across four initial priority targets, including Kelly Lake East. The company plans to conduct further outcrop and soil sampling, followed by detailed geophysical surveys in the second quarter of 2026 to refine drill targets. This systematic approach aims to leverage modern exploration techniques to unlock the full potential of the region.

The Belleterre project benefits from excellent infrastructure, including access to low-cost hydropower, well-established road and rail networks, and proximity to multiple milling facilities within 100 kilometres. These factors position Pivotal well to advance discoveries towards development efficiently.

Complementary Growth at Horden Lake

Alongside Belleterre, Pivotal also reiterated its updated mineral resource estimate for the Horden Lake project, which boasts a substantial inferred resource of 37 million tonnes at 1.1% copper equivalent. This resource includes copper, nickel, palladium, and gold, supported by strong metallurgical recoveries. The company continues to focus on de-risking and expanding this flagship asset in parallel with its exploration activities at Belleterre.

Managing Director Ivan Fairhall emphasised the significance of the Kelly Lake East discovery, noting the expansive copper-gold footprint and the opportunity to apply modern exploration methods to a largely underexplored system. The upcoming drilling campaign will be a critical test of the project’s potential to deliver meaningful new mineralisation.

Bottom Line?

Kelly Lake East’s upcoming drill program could redefine Pivotal’s Belleterre prospects and reshape investor expectations.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the January 2026 drilling confirm high-grade copper-gold mineralisation at Kelly Lake East?
  • How will Pivotal’s exploration results compare with neighbouring Vior Inc’s extensive drilling program?
  • What are the potential timelines and capital requirements to advance Belleterre towards development?
