Prairie Lithium (ASX, PL9) has announced the completion of major groundwork and geotechnical assessments at Pad 1 of its Prairie Lithium Project in Saskatchewan, Canada. This milestone clears the way for foundation work and full facility construction to commence in January 2026, marking a significant step forward in the company’s journey toward commercial lithium production.

The Prairie Lithium Project holds the distinction of being the only lithium brine operation in Canada with permits to establish commercial-scale production. This regulatory advantage, combined with the recent drilling of wells and the imminent delivery of a commercial lithium extraction unit, positions Prairie Lithium to rapidly scale operations in response to the current upswing in lithium prices.

Infrastructure and Power Setup on Track

Power infrastructure is a critical enabler for the project’s next phase. Prairie Lithium has secured approval from SaskPower to install a power line to the site, with electricity expected to be delivered in January 2026. Utility installation within the facility is planned for the following month, ensuring the site is fully operational to support the incoming extraction equipment.

The commercial scale lithium extraction unit is scheduled to arrive on site in April 2026. This timeline suggests that Prairie Lithium is on track to transition from construction to production within the first half of next year, a rapid progression that could allow the company to capitalize on favourable market conditions.

Located in Saskatchewan, one of the world’s most mining-friendly jurisdictions, the Prairie Lithium Project benefits from excellent access to infrastructure including paved highways, railroads, electricity, natural gas, and fresh water. The company also emphasizes sustainability, targeting reduced freshwater use, land disturbance, and waste generation compared to traditional lithium extraction methods.
