Metal Hawk Limited (ASX, MHK) has delivered encouraging results from its inaugural diamond drilling program at the Leinster South Project in Western Australia’s prolific Agnew-Lawlers region. The five-hole campaign, focused on the Thylacine prospect, intersected multiple zones of high-grade gold mineralisation, confirming the presence of thicker and higher tenor gold-bearing quartz veins and, notably, mineralisation hosted within the gabbro itself.
The standout intercepts include a 2.3-metre section grading 15.28 grams per tonne gold starting at just 28.1 metres depth, and a 1.7-metre interval at 7.71 grams per tonne from 338.65 metres. These results not only validate previous reverse circulation drilling but also expand the geological understanding of the system’s controls on gold deposition.
Expanding the Gold Footprint
Historically, gold mineralisation at Thylacine was primarily associated with quartz veining. However, the recent discovery of significant gold grades within the foliated gabbro host rock, such as a 1-metre interval averaging nearly 20 grams per tonne gold, opens new avenues for exploration. This suggests that the mineral system is more complex and extensive than previously thought, with potential for additional high-grade zones beyond the quartz veins.
Three of the five diamond holes were co-funded by the Western Australian Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme, underscoring the strategic importance of this project. The drilling also targeted deeper structural and geophysical anomalies, some of which have now been confirmed as mineralised, providing fresh targets for the upcoming drilling campaigns.
