Last updated: January 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you visit or use ™middle. (middle.news), operated by Middle Enterprises Pty Ltd (Australia).

Privacy at a glance (plain English)

  • You can browse most of the site without creating an account.
  • If you email us, use a contact form, or subscribe, we collect the information you provide (usually your email and message).
  • We use Google Analytics to understand site usage in aggregate and improve the product.
  • We do not sell personal information.
  • We do not try to "track you" across other websites for profiling.
  • If we add new features (accounts, personalisation, ads), we’ll update this policy.

1. What we collect

1.1 Information you provide (email, contact forms, feedback)

We may collect personal information when you voluntarily provide it, including:

  • Email address
  • Name (if you include it)
  • The content of your message/enquiry
  • Any other information you choose to submit

1.2 Automatically collected technical data

Like most websites, limited technical data may be processed automatically, such as:

  • IP address
  • Device and browser type
  • Pages viewed and approximate timestamps
  • Referring URL
  • Security, performance, and error logs

Note: IP addresses and device identifiers may be considered "personal information" in some contexts. We treat them carefully and use them mainly for security, performance, and aggregated reporting.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Respond to enquiries and support requests
  • Provide subscriptions/updates you request (e.g., email updates)
  • Maintain basic correspondence records
  • Improve site performance, reliability, and content relevance
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents

3. Analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (e.g., page views, time on page, traffic sources) so we can improve the product and editorial experience.

Google Analytics may set cookies or use similar technologies to measure usage. We view analytics in aggregate and do not use it to personally identify you.

Depending on configuration and Google’s processing, analytics data may be processed outside Australia. See Section 7 (Overseas processing).

4. Advertising & conversion measurement

We may run marketing or conversion measurement (for example, Google Ads conversion tags) to understand whether site visits lead to actions like subscriptions or enquiries.

We do not sell personal information. If we introduce targeted advertising or more advanced personalisation, we will update this policy and (where appropriate) provide additional user controls.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We may use cookies / local storage to:

  • Keep the site operating reliably
  • Remember preferences (e.g., theme selection) where applicable
  • Measure site usage (analytics)

You can usually control cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work correctly if cookies are disabled.

6. Sharing and disclosure

We may share information only in limited circumstances:

  • Service providers (hosting, analytics, email delivery, security) who process data on our behalf
  • Legal requirements (where required by law, court order, or to protect rights/safety)
  • Business changes (e.g., merger, acquisition, restructure), with appropriate safeguards

7. Australian operations and overseas processing

middle.news is developed and operated from Australia and we leverage Australian-based hosting where possible.

However, some third-party tools (such as analytics providers) may process data in other countries. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and minimise the data processed.

8. Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Respond to you
  • Provide requested communications
  • Maintain operational and security records
  • Comply with legal obligations

9. Your choices and access

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information you have provided (such as an email subscription or enquiry). Where feasible, we will comply within a reasonable timeframe.

If you are subscribed to emails, you can unsubscribe using any unsubscribe link provided (if present) or by contacting us directly.

10. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure. No system is perfectly secure, but we aim to minimise risk through secure infrastructure and access controls.

11. Children

middle.news is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Regulatory context (APPs & GDPR)

middle.news is operated from Australia and aligns with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including APP 1 (open and transparent management of personal information).

The GDPR generally applies to organisations established in the EU or those intentionally targeting EU residents (for example, by offering EU-specific services or behavioural profiling). middle.news focuses on Australian markets and audiences and does not specifically target EU users.

If our operations change (e.g., EU-targeted offerings, accounts, subscriptions, or expanded profiling/advertising), we will update this policy accordingly.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date will be changed when updates are made.
